Toolstation League premier division: Brislington 3, Wellington 0

Wellington suffered their second away defeat in four days with a disappointing night in Bristol.

Looking to bounce back from a frustrating trip to Saltash at the weekend, Tim Legg’s side started brightly.

But Brislington launched their serious first attack after 17 minutes and took the lead with a goal which summed up the visitors’ evening. A low cross was driven in from the left and the ball cannoned off Wellington skipper Glen Wright and past his keeper Shay Allen.

The home side doubled their lead eight minutes later, having complained that the referee had not played advantage by awarding them a free kick. They were less aggrieved when the ball was floated in for Asa White to head home number two.

Wellington enjoyed plenty of possession but were unable to penetrate a stubborn Brislington defence and things got even worse with 12 minutes remaining when a long-range effort by Archie Ferris took a wicked deflection to wrong-foot Allen and fly into the net.

At least Wellington can now look forward to a run of three successive home games – starting against Cadbury Heath on Saturday – before ending the season with two away matches over the Easter weekend.

Wellington: Shay Allen, Mark Cornish, Jason Quick, Glen Wright, Eli Collins, Miles Quick, Josh Champion, Sam Towler, Jake Quick, Douglas Camilo, Nathan Byrne. Subs: Josh Baker (used); Mason Raymond and Tim Legg (not used), Attendance: 72.
