Our Wanderers U10 boys travelled to Ruishton for round two of the cup, facing a tough test against the host club, Huish, Galmington and VPR in what was undoubtedly a challenging group.
With a place in Finals Day at stake, the team knew they had to perform at their best to progress.
The tournament started with a few nerves, and Wellington took time to settle into their usual rhythm. However, as the games went on, they grew in confidence and showed why they are considered one of the top teams in the league.
Despite difficult pitch conditions making fluid football tricky, Wellington adapted well, showcasing their ability to play smart, effective football.
Defensively, the team were outstanding, working together to shut down opposition attacks and providing a solid foundation for success. Their resilience at the back, combined with some fine goalkeeping, meant they only conceded twice across all four matches.
As they gained momentum, their attacking play flourished, with sharp passing, clever movement, and clinical finishing leading to an impressive tally of nine goals.
Rex Beatty led the way with four goals, proving to be a constant threat to goal. Jack Jorge followed closely behind with three well-taken finishes, while Louis Molloy added two to complete a fantastic team effort.
But beyond the goalscorers, every player contributed to the team’s success, whether through defensive grit, relentless pressing, or creativity in the final third. It was a true team performance, highlighting Wellington’s strength across the pitch.
By the end of the tournament, Wellington had done enough to secure their place in Finals Day for the third consecutive year—an incredible achievement which speaks volumes about the team’s consistency, determination, and quality.
The players can be extremely proud of their performances, as can their parents, who have supported them every step of the way.
A special thank you goes to Roadchef (kit sponsor) and R&M Motor (jacket sponsor) for their continued support of the team. Their backing helps the players perform at their best and look the part while doing it!
